Catching
Games
Mr. Hit (Ron) It is the best you will all
see.
I learned this lesson in Ecole Philip
Gaulier. It is a good game for learning the names of a group,
but it is also great (and very difficult) with a group whose names
are already familiar to each other.
One person starts as Mr.
Hit and announces "I am Mr. Hit!" Mr. Hit tries to catch another
person, by walking directly (slowly, at first) towards
him. One way for the intended victim is to avoid contact (but
later people can not move so it doesn’t help much). Another
way the victim can stop Mr. Hit is to call out the name of another
person in the group before any contact is made or within few
seconds from a contact. The Judge (me) will determine in cases of
doubt. If he touches (hits) the person and no correct reply have
been made within a short time, they are "out" and must leave the
game.
Once a name is called out, that person instantly becomes Mr.
Hit and begins advancing on a victim. He doesn't have to
announce that he is Mr. Hit after the first time. Again, the
only way the victim can save himself is by calling out a
name.
The game is played until only two people are left. It gets
harder and harder, because as people are "out" the fund of names
grows smaller. You can't say the name of a person who is out--it
must be someone who is still in the game. It sounds easy, but
it isn't.
There are some small rules that apply as
well:
If you are to say a name but you move your hands instead, you
are out.
If the person whose name you say didn’t hear it
clearly, you are out.
When only about 10-12 people are left the group
stands in a circle, and people can’t
move.
This is a great game!
The same
game has a variation in which you mustn’t be touched before
you say a name. But this small change makes it completely different
game.
We can try it as well.
Catching 12345
(Ron)
One person is the catcher. Others are
running away and when being caught become the
catcher.
You can touch someone else and then the catcher can not
catch you but he can counts 12345 and the group in front must
separate.
Fun game.
Freeze Catching
(Ron)
Two or three catchers depend on the number
of layers. If the catcher catches someone the caught person freezes
and stands with his legs spread apart. A free player can
unfreeze him by passing between his legs.
The catchers have to
freeze all the people.
Threes
(Ron)
Good for groups of N people N mod 3 =
2.
One person is the catcher, one, the victim, is running away.
All the others stand in groups of three in a big circle. The
catcher tries to catch the victim. When in danger, the victim can
stand near one end of a group of three and then the last person in
that group (on the other side) drops and becomes the
victim.
If the catcher catches the victim, they replace
duties.
Chairs
Musical chairs
(Ron)
Geisha Walking
(Ron)
Chairs are spread around, like in Musical
Chairs, and only chair is vacant. One person is standing with a
sheet of paper between his knees (he is the Geisha) and he tries to
sit in the empty chair. Other people have to move to sit in the
empty chair before the Geisha does. If you left your chair
you can’t go back to
it.
Winking
(Ron)
Chairs are ordered in a square. Behind
every chair there is a person, and some chairs are occupied with
people. If you are behind a chair and your chair is empty, you
should wink to someone in a chair, in order to convince him to move
to your chair. If while he tries to move, the person behind his
chair touches him he should stay there and wait for a new
wink.
Ball Games (a soft
ball)
Go!
(Ron)
Circle and one in the center. People from
the circle are throwing the ball to the person in the center. If
someone says “GO” he replaces the central
person.
Keep
in the air (Ron)
The people in the group
have to hit the ball with their hands or head a specified number of
times. Everyone has to touch at least once.
Columns
(Ron)
Few columns, in each column the ball is
passing once from above and once between the legs from below. When
the ball reaches the first person he runs to the end of the column
with the ball. Until all the people are done.
8 Squares
(Ron)
I’ll explain when we
play.
Other
Games
The Murderer
(Ron)
Without the knowledge of the rest one of
the participants is being chosen as a murderer. All the people are
walking in the area, and the murderer is winking at other people. I
you have been winked at, you must die but only after few seconds
(minutes) so not to expose the murderer. If someone thinks he knows
who the murderer is he can come and whisper the name to the
organizer. If he is right the murderer is exposed. Otherwise he is
out as well.
Differences
(Ron)
A group is preparing a
“picture” with themselves (they stand in a certain
position). The other group watches them very carefully for 30
seconds. Then the watching group close their eyes, and the
presenting group changes just a bit, to create 10 small
differences. Now the other group has to tell the
differences.
Facts
(Ron)
People are walking around, and forming
pairs. Each one tells the other person 3 facts about himself. Two
true ones, and one not. The other person has to guess the false
one.

With obstacles in the way, like a chair people have to sit
or stand on.
